TRAI Guidelines : The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has announced new guidelines that will benefit the 150 million Indian smartphone users. These are the users who are using 2G services. Such users who depend on basic mobile services like voice calls and SMS, always face problems due to expensive recharge plans. They get unnecessary data in recharge, which they cannot use.
In view of this, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on December 24 released new updated guidelines, requiring telecom companies to launch reasonable plans that comply with the new rules.
According to the new rule, all telecom companies like Airtel, Jio, BSNL and Vodafone Idea will have to launch top-up vouchers, which can be availed at an initial price of Rs 10. Also, in a major update TRAI has increased the validity of Special Tariff Vouchers from 90 days to 365 days. This change ensures that users will be able to use long-term recharge options.
Currently, these users have to pay more for plans with data. This is their compulsion, as telecom operators do not have any specific plans for voice and MMS only. Even when they don’t need data, they have to take this plan, which they don’t even use
TRAI’s guidelines are said to have already been implemented and telecom companies have been given a few weeks to implement them. However, the official launch date has not been announced. But a fair recharge plan is expected to hit the market by the end of January.
